Mount Agung is the highest mountain in Bali, with a peak of 3,142 meters above sea level. It is also a sacred mountain, worshipped by the Balinese people. Gunung Agung is a still active vulcano, with green and lush forest vegetation on its lower elevation, yet dramatically barren on the top. You can witness wonderful views from its top, including a dazzling view over the island of Bali, as well as the beautiful Mount Rinjani peak on Lombok Island. The sunrise on the top of Mount Agung is a marvelous experience you simply must have witnessed once in your life.
The Mount Agung trekking trail that starts at the Besakih Temple (The Mother Temple of Bali) is perfect for all of you who like a good challenge. Although it does not require any mountaineering tools or experience, it is still a challenging and difficult trekking route. It takes about 12 hours to reach the 3,142m high top and back, and you will even need to ascend at some points on all fours. However, in the end, you will understand why it is was worth all those efforts, with that awesome and unforgettable heavenly view.
